Still Life

For this assignment, I chose to take pictures for the still life category. I used a black, velor blanket as the background. The material caused the light to catch it in certain ways, and the way it was propped up caused some of the wrinkles in the cloth. I took the pictures in my living room, which had many large windows and allowed for a large amount of natural light to come in. I took quite a few photos of the same subject, because I wanted to make sure that i snapped the picture at the best angle and perspective, with the light shining in just right. My favorite photos were of the Mexican Train set. I thought the colors of the trains and the dominoes really popped against the black blanket. The game set also demonstrated aperture and depth of field really well, which I thought improved the pictures quality. My final picture is a basket of pumpkins tipped over and it was my final chose because I liked how the light was hitting the basket and the pumpkins filled the wrinkles in the blanket.

Best Picture:
ISO- 400
Shutter Speed- 1/4 sec
Aperture- f/2.8

  1. I really like your use of color and the perspective of most of your photos, especially your best photo. The rule of thirds and strong contrast of colors in this photo make it stand out.

  3. I like the angle of the photo and how it looks like the pumpkins fell out of the basket. There is a great mix between the colors!
